General Wii Information – All New

General Wii stuff
- CNN has signed up with Nintendo as the provider of news content on tne News Channel in American and Japan. News will be presented by category, but another way of getting to it is by spinning the weather globe to find stories in different countries
- Sega has moved a significant number of development staff from PS3 to Wii over the Summer
- Although Nintendo has removed DVD movie playback from the Wii, it plans to launch in Japan next year an enhanced Wii capable of such a feature
- Nintendo intended to bring Wii to shop shelves in the UK and US for £150 and $200, but became influenced by pressure from the larger retail chains, which raised concerns over margins and low so-called ‘basket value’ (ie, the amount of revenue generated from a customer’s overall purchases at the till)
- There are plenty of Wii Channel slots remaining to be filled
- Edge says that Wii Sports will be to Wii what Mario 64 was to the N64. Says golf has the best single player mode (no surprise) and boxing is their favourite overall
Now I really can’t wait for Wii Sports., especially since they liked the golf, and that’s the one I’m looking forward to playing most. The possibility of a new enhanced Wii doesn’t get me excited though. Infact it makes me feel rather anoyed just like te DS Lite did. I won’t bore you with details of why, but most of this is great news.

I like the idea of the globe feature in the news channel. I can’t wait to see it in action.
Ok, the only thing I would want to see on a the Wii is HDTV support..HDMI connections, etc…
Releasing an enhanced Wii with DVD playback would be a very bogus move on Nintendo’s part. The hardware is clearly capable of playing DVDs, because it can read GC discs, right? I’d be happy to buy a $10 or $20 channel for DVD playback, but new hardware would be such BS.

Well Nintendo has a previous history about releasing different versions of their consoles not so far apart, tha pisses everybody, and still everyone loves them.

When you said how that and the DSlite upset you, I think I know what you’re talking about. Like the Gameboy Advance SP and Gameboy Advance Micro, the Platinum edition Gamecube and other late color releases, dumb stuff like that, right? Really, it pisses me off that they have some of the coolest things come out after the release, leaving the most dedicated fans that purchased at launch in the dust. Sigh…

Having an HDMI connection wouldn’t help anything unless you have run out of component input spots on your TV. Since the max resolution Wii is doing is 480p, HDMI wouldn’t offer anything better as far as video quality. They may support DVI/HDMI in the future but for now Component is just fine.

I believe CNN gives as much balanced news as Disney gives a fair sociological breakdown of the US.
The only reason you cant say its the most bias news this side of Iranian TV is taht there is FOX news at the very bottom but the line between all three is very,very fine.

they didn’t include a dvd player that way the price would be cheaper, besides who really wants to watch a dvd on a console that doesn’t have any sort of digital sound output? and are you saying you don’t already own a DVD player? or 2?3? I’d rather save the money, and have a console focused entirely on games.
I can’t wait to see the wedding between Wii and some of the higher end dvd/blueray players. i hope it works out well

But some of us would like to consolidate the number of boxes sitting beneath our television sets down to a more managable number. Some of us could even sell this to our partners by suggesting that we get rid of the horrible big black DVD player and replace it with a sexy iPod coloured Wii…

I think its unlikely Nintendo is going to release an official DVD version. Someone else might do it, but why the hell would they do that? You can buy a dvd player for a few bucks these days, why add it to the console. That would not make any sense.
And for those who ‘dispise’the DS Lite… I wonder if you have a mobile phone. There is a better one released about every hour, but thats fine. But when Nintendo releases a better version of its handheld with technical improvements who wherent available at that time, or not available at that cost at that time you think its ‘evil’. I have a DS Phat and I would like a DS Lite for its supperior screen. But I got my DS a long time before the Lite was there and it still works and works well and I still love playing on it.

jeez u can replace your old black box with a 30$ dvd player which is quite small and doesnt take up room at all
I see dvd playback as a nice benefit for those of us short on input connectors. however, on the same note, I have an xbox already, so technically I could have that do playback. and nor do I really care, but it’s a valid point some might have.
Not to pee on you guys’ parades even more, but the Nintendo rep that has come by our store (EBGames) has told us there will already be a black Wii coming on the market in the Spring. Possibly the dvd playback one? I dunno, but definetely a second color.
